OTTO M YASSINE

Your ☕ cup coffee is ready? 😈 This is a comparison between the Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro from Apple, Both of these devices are from the Pro series.

To make it clear, this is not a comparison between the Huawei Mate 40 Pro ‘Plus’ against the iPhone 12 Pro ‘Max, Both of these devices are the most powerful and balanced devices from both companies.

And before I start, let me tell you that numbers are the basis of my comparisons, Keep up with me in points, Leave a comment on how your points distribution have ended up.

Let me first start with the design:😈

The Mate 40 Pro keeps the same design of the recent Mate devices. The front comes with a 88 degrees curved screen. The screen comes with a wide punch hole to house the front facing cameras.

The frame is made from Aluminium, and there’s a red accented power button and physical volume rockers, The back is made from matte glass with rainbow reflection, which I find beautiful.

There’s a black circle on the back that houses the rear cameras and Huawei calls it Space Ring Camera. The iPhone 12 Pro comes with full screen with a notch at the top to house the front facing camera and sensors. The design is new this year.

The screen comes with a Ceramic Shield that protects the screen better. The back is made from glass with square design in the top left to house the rear cameras.

The frame is made from a shiny stainless steel. The device is thicker and bigger and looks similar to the iPad Pro and iPhone 5. The design of the iPhone 12 Pro is very similar to the the design of the iPad Pro.

Who wins the point?😈

Both devices are very elegant, Each one has its own unique design. There’s no flaws in the designs of both devices. Both companies have done their best with the design. Once you carry both of them you’ll realize how elegant they are.

A point goes to each one of them.

Let me now compare the screen on both devices:

The screen of the Mate 40 Pro is 6.76\ » OLED panel, The screen to body ratio is 94.1%, The screen resolution is 2772×1344, It comes with 456ppi density.

The screen of the Mate 40 Pro frequency is 90Hz. The touch sensitivity is 240Hz on the screen of the Mate 40 Pro.

Let me now discuss the screen of the iPhone 12 Pro:

It comes with a Super Retina XDR screen, The screen size is 6.1, The screen to body ratio is 86%, The screen resolution is 2532×1170, It comes with 460ppi density. It supports Dolby Vision, HDR10 and True Tone.

Let’s see who’s screen is better:

Honestly, both screens are excellent, Both are OLED and offer saturated colors and deep blacks. But the screen frequency on the Mate 40 Pro is 90Hz. This gives the screen better smoothness and fluidity. »

The point goes to the Mate 40 Pro.

With all due respect to the iPhone 12 Pro screen. Because it supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. But if you find the screen of the iPhone better and the 90Hz makes no difference to you. Then you can adjust the distribution of the points.

Let me now discuss the CPU:

The CPU of the Mate 40 Pro is the Kirin 9000, It comes with 8 cores and built using 5nm architecture, It supports 5G and comes with an NPU. The GPU is the Mali-G78 with 24 cores.

The iPhone 12 Pro comes with the A14 Bionic CPU build using 5nm architecture and supports 5G. The A series CPU from Apple are known for their powerfulness and have always on comparisons. It also comes with an NPU unit.

Let me now discuss the GeekBench 5 test:

We couldn’t install the GeekBench 5 app on the device, But we’ll use the results showed in GSMArena website. The CPU scored 1020 points for the single core and 3704 points for multicores.

The iPhone 12 Pro scored 1590 points for the single core and 4009 points for the multi-core.

Who wins the point?😈

Both CPUs offer high performance, But once again, the A14 Bionic CPUs wins the point over all other Android CPUs. The iPhone 12 Pro deservedly wins the point, With all due respect to the Kirin 9000 CPU, which comes with excellent power efficiency.

Let’s now discuss the OS:

The Mate 40 Pro runs Android 10 with EMUI 11, which is known for its shortcuts, The UI supports Sidebar for apps, air gestures, It doesn’t officially support Google services, But Huawei have introduced their alternative that is the App Gallery.

It is Google Play alternative, but unfortunately, Google services can’t be officially installed on this device, But Huawei offers an alternative store, where you can download lots of apps.

It also offers Petal Search engine to download 3rd party apps, But the security of these apps are unknown. The iPhone 12 Pro runs iOS 14.

The new update brings lots of features such as the Widgets, It also supports App Library. It also supports hiding pages among many other features.

What’s special about the iOS 14 is the famous App Store, It includes lots of apps.

Unlike the 3rd party apps, the apps in the App Store are very safe.

Who wins the point?😈

We all know that the point goes to the iPhone. The reason is Apple’s support to the iOS. Main apps are also supported and updated. With all appreciation to the App Gallery as Huawei is continuing to add local apps to it.

Let’s now discuss Secure unlocking:

The Mate 40 Pro offers a lot of ways to unlock the device, It included pattern, passcode and password, It also unlocks using the fingerprint sensor embedded in the screen.

The sensor is very responsive, It also supports secure face recognition since it comes with dedicated 3D sensors. The iPhone 12 Pro doesn’t support a fingerprint sensor. It only uses passcode or Face ID. It is well known that the Face ID is very secure.

The point goes to the Mate 40 Pro. It supports lots of ways such as in-display fingerprint sensor, face recognition, passcode and so on. With all appreciation to the efficiency of the Face ID on the iPhone.

Let’s now discuss the cameras:

And here, I expected things, but the really was different, The Mate 40 Pro comes with 3 rear cameras, The first one is the Wide 50MP camera, the second is the Ultra Wide 20MP camera.

The third is the 12MP Telephoto camera, There’s also a laser sensor. While the front facing camera is 13MP and there’s also a 3D sensor next to it.

The iPhone 12 Pro comes with 3 rear cameras. All of them are 12MP. And they are Wide, Ultra Wide and Telephoto. It also comes with the LiDAR sensor.

We’ve seen this sensor before on the iPad Pro, The front facing one is the 12MP True Depth camera. There are also different sensors next to it. Experiment is the best way to describe these performance of these cameras.

Let’s first discuss still photos:

Both device offer excellent results, but both have their own way in color processing. The Mate 40 Pro offers warm photos with saturated colors with satisfactory details and quality.

The iPhone 12 Pro offers saturated and more natural colors. And in my circumstances, it is better in quality and details.

Let’s now discuss Ultra Wide photos:

Both devices offer similar photos, but with difference in color processing. I consider it a personal preference, But compared to the Mate 40 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro offers wider photos.

Let’s now discuss zoom photos:

The Mate 40 Pro wins here as it supports 5x optical zoom, 10x Hybrid zoom and 50x digital zoom, The iPhone 12 Pro supports 2x optical zoom and 10x Digital zoom.

Let’s now discuss Portrait photos:

The outcome is very similar except for the color processing and isolation level, But the iPhone 12 Pro excels sometimes in background isolation.

Let’s now discuss Night Mode:

The outcome is very similar, But the Mate 40 Pro performs better with light. Even the details are better than that of the iPhone 12 Pro. But compared to the iPhone 12 Pro, it takes longer time to shoot a night mode photo.

Let’s now discuss videos with FHDp@60fps:

Both devices offer excellent stabilization and both are similar, Both offer satisfactory details and quality. But the Mate 40 Pro sometimes faces problems in color processing.

Sometimes, the colors become contrasty and cold for no reason. But I expect this problem will be solved with future software updates.

Let’s now discuss 4K@60fps videos:

The iPhone 12 Pro is better when it comes to stabilization, The Mate 40 Pro sometimes shows weird noises on objects. But I also expect this problem will be solved with a future software update. The iPhone 12 Pro wins the 4K@60fps video comparison.

Let’s now discuss Night Mode videos:

The Mate 40 Pro is better when it comes to light and details, But the iPhone 12 Pro offers better stability, And also, the Mate 40 Pro faces a problem with color processing, which I previously mentioned.

But I also expect it’ll be solved with a future software update, But I am not sure when these software updates will come. It could be in 2 days or a week.

Let’s now discuss slo-mo videos:

The Mate 40 Pro supports 720p@3840fps slo-mo videos, The iPhone only supports up to 1080p@240fps, The Mate 40 Pro provides satisfactory quality with cold colors with the front facing camera. But the skin is a bit beautified.

But we’re used to this feature in Huawei devices. By the way, the front facing camera of the Mate 40 Pro offers a 100 degrees of view. The iPhone 12 Pro offers satisfactory details, warm and more natural colors, And the skin isn’t beautified.

Let’s now discuss the portrait on the front facing camera:

Both devices are very similar, There are color differences between them, but it is a personal preference. But in some cases, the Mate 40 Pro offers better isolation than the iPhone 12 Pro.

Both devices shoot 4K@60fps videos using the front facing camera since both are flagship devices, I am using a yellow light.

Can you change it to a white light? Just change the color meter.

Which one of these devices win the camera point?

Comparing cameras is the hardest thing in these articles guys!

Both devices offer excellent experience, But the iPhone 12 Pro in many occurrence and circumstances offered better results. Color processing on the iPhone is excellent.

The details and balance are excellent, and that’s why the iPhone wins the point. With all appreciation to the Mate 40 Pro, which offers more photography modes, But if you think otherwise, then you have the right to give the point to the Mate 40 Pro or give both a point.

Let’s now discuss the battery:

The Mate 40 Pro comes with a 4400mAh battery, It also supports charging with 66w using Huawei’s Super Charge technology, And can you imagine that the device can be fully charged to 100% in 45 minutes only! It also supports wireless charging with 50w using the Super Charge technology.

It also supports reverse wireless charging, If you enable this feature, you can charge other accessories off the device itself, According to some information, the battery of the iPhone 12 Pro is 2815mAh, but Apple doesn’t specify it, It supports 20w fast charging, and charges from 0% to 50% in 30 minutes.

It also supports wireless charging with 15w using the new MagSafe technology, Or 7.5w using Qi chargers. Hopefully, Apple will enable the reverse wireless charging as it supported with the hardware but needs an update to enable it.

Who wins the point in the battery department?

The point goes to the Mate 40 Pro for sure, It comes with a bigger battery with ultra fast charging speeds. And unlike the iPhone 12 Pro, the fast charger comes in the box of the Mate 40 Pro.

It also supports 50w of wireless charging with reverse wireless charging support, The Mate 40 Pro clearly wins the point.

Let me now discuss storage and connectivity:

Both devices support 5G. The Mate 40 Pro supports bluetooth 5.2, while the iPhone supports bluetooth 5. Both support WiFi 6 and NFC for different usages.

The Mate 40 Pro supports Mada Pay, While the iPhone 12 Pro supports Apple Pay. Both devices support VoLTE and WiFi Calling, but it depends on your carrier. The Mate 40 Pro supports a feature called Multi Screen Collaboration. It’ll enable the device to be connected to a Huawei laptop that supports this feature.

And you can then control the phone from the screen of your laptop. You can also easily share files between both devices.

There’s a similar feature on the iPhone, but it only works for recording the screen of the iPhone, not copy files and so on. The Mate 40 Pro comes with a 256GB of onboard storage and 8GB of RAM.

You can also added an external storage up to 256GB using Nano card. Or you can use 2 SIM cards instead of it, since it also supports 2 SIM cards. It also supports eSIM.

The iPhone comes with either 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of onboard storage, According to GSM Arena, the RAM is 6GB. It supports a physical SIM card and an eSIM.

Who wins the point?😈

Both devices are similar, but the Mate 40 Pro supports 2 SIM cards, 8GB RAM, expandable storage. Also it supports connections such as the bluetooth 5.2 It also can be connected to Huawei laptop and control it from there.

The point goes to the Mate 40 Pro, With all due respect to the iPhone 12 Pro. Both devices come with additional features. Both devices support IP68 water and dust resistant.

Huawei laptop has a great ecosystem that include their laptops, smartwatches and smart appliances such as the scales. It also supports Huawei Share, which lets you share files in high speeds with supported devices.

In general, their ecosystem is increasing and getting better. Apple has its own ecosystem, such as the MacBooks, Apple Watch, iPhones and iPads. These devices work great in this ecosystem, and all support AirPlay and AirDrop, It is also easy to use. These ecosystems mean a lot to some users.

Who wins the point? 😈

It is called Additional Features, It could be important for some, and it come be really important for others, I don’t know what devices you have, so I can’t give you my opinion.

I’ll leave it up to you to decide, but for me, I’ll give each one of these devices a point.

Let’s now discuss the last point:😈

prices and after purchase services, The rest of the currencies are available on the screen. The content of the box are a clear cover, fast charger charging cable and headphones. By the way, the charger depends on your country, The content may vary from a region to another.

Huawei offers lots of services and maintenance, and you get it from their official website. They also have their own official store, where you can also buy accessories.

The price of the iPhone 12 Pro ! The box only contains a the USB-C to lightning charging cable. They have own reasons. The box doesn’t include a wall adapter or headphones.

You can also add Apple Care service to the iPhone with a little price. The price will be a bit higher, but you’ll have better warranty. Official and 3rd party accessories are very popular. There are official maintenance centers in many countries. But they don’t have their own official store in some countries!

Who wins the point?😈

The prices of both devices are vey similar. But if you buy the wall adapter, the price will increase significantly.

The Mate 40 Pro wins the point.

As it comes with a clear cover, fast charger and other stuff. Unlike the iPhone, which doesn’t, but if you decide to sell the iPhone a year from now, the price will be nearly the same.

Oh My GOOD 😱 ! The Mate 40 Pro deservedly wins this comparison as it surpasses the iPhone in many aspects. But your points could be different. Share your results in the comment section. Still, Apple is a powerful company.

And Huawei have proven themselves to be a powerful company in few years. If the Mate receives camera updates, and supports Google services the result will even be more in favour of the Mate.

This is the end of this article guys. Numbers are the basics of my comparisons, sorry Apple lol.

See you in the next review.😈
