What do you think of Samsung galaxy Z flip 4 ?

Review 164: 12.09.2022 at 00:00 am by OTTO.

This is the new Galaxy Z Flip 4, which comes with great new features and things that I wished were better. The internal screen is a high quality folding screen. There’s also an external screen to help users take selfies. This is the new generation of foldables from Samsung. It is the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4.

Peace be upon you all. This is your host OTTO magazine, This device builds on the legacy of the previous version, but there are things that I wished it supported. Let discuss the pros and cons of this device first.

Pros:

It has a main foldable screen. The screen supports 120Hz refresh rate. There’s a smaller external screen for easy access to notifications. The cameras’ performance has been developed, especially in light withdrawal. The battery has also been increased without affecting the overall size of the device.

Cons:

the design remains the same as the previous version. Yet, there are little differences in dimensions, which means last year’s covers won’t be suitable for this device. It only supports one Nano SIM card, and it doesn’t support an external SD card. Had it supported and SD card, it would’ve been better for multi-purposes. However, the device is excellent. And I’ll discuss why later in this review.

Let me know if this short pros/cons segment is useful for you or not. Usually, companies don’t radically change the design of their devices every year. The reason is because the design is excellent and needs no changes. Or users like the design, or both of them. For example, the Note 8 and 9 had nearly the same design, so is the S20, S21 and S22. Samsung usually doesn’t radically change the design, but instead, it builds on it to make it better. This is my opinion about this matter. Yet, I wished that it came with a new better design.

The device is made from glass with a firm metal frame. The back is matte with a big rectangular on the top to house the external screen and cameras. The external screen is covered with a CGG Victus+ layer. The front is mostly a screen that can fold. It is protected by an Ultra Thin Glass layer. According to Samsung, this glass is durable.

The device is IPX8 water resistant. By the way, don’t remove the external layer on the screen. If you remove it, your warranty will be void. This layer can’t be removed or replaced, and it is meant to protect the screen. This is a new technology with a lot of head room for improvement. And because it is a new technology, this protective layer is applied out of the factory. The device isn’t dust proof, which means dust can affect the screen.

However, the device resists 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. I advise you not to try to submerge the device in water. When unfolded, the thickness of the device is 6.9mm. And when folded, it’ll be 17.1mm from the thickest point. It feels better and more secure in the hand. The external screen is also better in showing more information. The new One UI enables the screen to offer more details. The Z Flip 3 might also get a new update to enable the external screen to show more information. The device comes with the SD 8 Gen 1+ CPU. This Plus version offers significant performance.

The CPU comes with 8 cores and is built using 4nm architecture. It also supports 5G. The GPU is the Adreno 730. In Geekbench 5, the CPU scored 1298 points for the single core and 4058 points for multicores. By the way, the Fold 3 and 4 have better performance gap than the Flip 3 and Flip 4. PUBG game started with the smooth setting with the highest frames. The game worked smoothly with 60fps. The game itself doesn’t support 120Hz. The game developers have to support it first. The battery is 3700mAh with 25W charging speed using Samsung’s Super FastCharging technology. The battery charges from 0% to 50% in nearly 30 minutes.

The device supports Wireless fast charging and reverse wireless charging to let you charge your wearables. The main screen is 6.7″ FHD+ called Dynamic AMOLED 2x. The resolution of the screen is 2680x1080p. It has 425ppi. It also supports adaptive refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz. This means that the screen will save more energy depending on what you’re watching. If you’re viewing a photo, the screen will only refresh once every second. If you’re watching a video, the screen will refresh higher.

The screen offers excellent colors and high contrast. The screen is great for all purposes, such as viewing the web or gaming. The external screen is 1.9″ Super AMOLED Display. The screen supports GIFs and allows you to do quick actions like answering phone calls and so on. If you press the power button twice, you can then take a selfie using the external screen. It supports gestures as well.

This feature is supported on older versions, but I still think that it is great. The device comes with dual rear cameras and a single front facing camera. The main rear camera is 12MP with a 83 degrees of view. The camera now withdraw more light than the previous generation with better performance. The second camera is the Ultra Wide 12MP with a 123 degrees of view. The front facing camera is 8MP with 80 degrees of view. The main camera provides excellent photos. The details and contrast are high.

The colors are warm and natural in most conditions. But it depends on the color processing method. In general, the main camera won’t disappoint you. The Ultra Wide provides very good results, and nearly the same experience as the main camera. Even the colors are nearly the same.

Overall, the performance is satisfactory. In portrait photos, the isolation is very good, especially with humans and objects. In general, it won’t disappoint you. In most conditions, night photography is very good. The quality may vary, but in general, it offers satisfactory performance. The cameras can record 4K@60fps videos with satisfactory results. The stabalization is also good. It supports a mode called Super Steady with 1080p@30fps with better stabalization. 1080p is excellent for most users. This is how the front facing camera performs. This is also how the front facing camera performs with videos. This is how the camera performs in different light scenarios.

The device supports a Nano SIM and an eSIM. It comes with either 128, 256 or 512GB storage. The RAM is 8GB. It runs Android 12 with Samsung’s OneUI 4.1.1. The UI is known for its smoothness and ease of use. I previously discussed the features of the UI in a separate video. The UI supports a mode called Flex, which give the device to a laptop-like experience. It is a great feature to split the screen into two parts. Part of the screen will be for controls and the other part will be for viewing content.

The lower part will turn into a touchpad. The other mode is called Flex Mode, where the screen will be split into two halves as well. This will make it easier for users to take selfies and photos. Especially, when the device is put on a table or a flat surface. This feature is also expected to arrive to the Z Flip 3 with an upcoming software update. The device supports bluetooth 5.2, WiFi 6e and older versions of WiFi. It also supports NFC, to enable you to use for it different payment methods. It unlocks using the side fingerprint sensor, where it is easier to unlock it wether folded or not.

The box includes the device and the charging cable. The newly released covers are actually beautiful. I reviewed some of them on my different social media accounts. These covers and accessories add a different dimension to the device.

The price of the device is 1010,99 USD. The more storage you need, the higher the price will be.

The Z Flip 4 reminds us of the great old clamshell devices. But it comes with high technologies such as the folding screen. Everyone I know who has a foldable device loves the screen. Some of them, however, complain about the crease, but you won’t notice it most of the time. I’ve also noticed this with many foldable devices.

So, What do you think of this new Z Flip 4 device? 😁🙆‍♂️

See you later.🙏❤
