Google’s cloud gaming service Stadia is still coming up with new ways to engage gamers, and it’s now trying out a way to offer free, time-limited trials of full games, so you can see if they’re right for you.
You can now go to Stadia, sign in with your Google account, and play a free 30-minute trial of Hello Engineer by simply following this link and scrolling down to the Free Trial button.
This option allows players to try the game without a paid Stadia Pro subscription. This game, in particular, is currently free on Stadia Pro for a limited time.
A Stadia representative told the company that this trial is being conducted by the company over the next two months. And it’s coming to select other games in the coming weeks. Sessions won’t always last 30 minutes, and you may not see the same games as everyone else.
The company also has this dedicated webpage for other free trials it may offer in the future. And that’s even though you can only find Hello Engineer there at the moment. The company previously experimented with some limited promotions.
Once the free trial starts, players can access the full game with a sidebar to count down the time the trial will take. The timer counts the time from the start of the trial version, not the time of active play.
At the end of the trial, Google asks if you want to purchase the game, and your progress from the end of the trial is saved if you purchase the game.
Free trial versions do not require an account:
You still have to sign in with a Google account. You also have to tap on the Health and Safety screen and another to check access and then wait for the game to load.
But this is a step in the right direction, especially if it becomes a standard feature for Stadia games. There is no work required from the point of view of the game developer or publisher to create a demo. The fact that it’s a cloud game eases any privacy concerns.
And if you enjoy Hello Engineer, you can buy it for $19.99 through Stadia, or sign up for Stadia Pro, which includes it for free.
Other options that are completely free via Stadia include Destiny 2 and Super Bomberman R Online. So there is no need to wonder if cloud gaming technology is right for you. You can try it now with three different games without restrictions to find out
