Apple usually adopts a wait-and-see approach to emerging technologies, unlike its competitors such as: Google and Microsoft, and this is what it has done in the generative artificial intelligence race that we have been witnessing since the beginning of the year.
Usually, Apple is late in entering the emerging technology race for development and monitoring the negatives to provide a product that outperforms everyone else. So will you be able to do this with the (AppleGPT) bot you’re currently working on? đ
Firstly; What is (AppleGPT) bot and how is it developed? đ€
A new report from (Bloomberg) agency indicated that Apple is currently developing a new interactive chat bot that competes with ChatGPT, Bard from Google, and Bing Chat from Microsoft, and the company’s employees call it (AppleGPT).
As working on artificial intelligence technologies has become a priority for Apple over the past few months, after Chatbots and artificial intelligence functions spread in applications and services.
According to a Bloomberg report; Apple has developed a framework for developing a large language model â such as: GPT from OpenAI and (PaLM) from Google â this framework is known internally as (Ajax), and it relies on its work on the Google framework for machine learning (Google Jax), and it also works on Google Cloud servers.
The development of the (AppleGPT) bot began with limited efforts from the company’s developers at the end of last year, but the company postponed its development and release to the public due to privacy concerns associated with artificial intelligence that spread after the launch and widespread use of (ChatGPT).
Apple takes a strict approach to privacy, putting privacy ahead of product features; Because privacy protection is the main promotional point that the company uses with all its products.
Therefore, Apple has a number of teams that are working on developing artificial intelligence technologies and integrating them into their products, but trying to solve privacy issues first, even with its voice assistant (Siri) Siri.
secondly; What is the difference between (AppleGPT) and (ChatGPT)?
Apple employees say that the (AppleGPT) robot currently reproduces the working mechanism of (Bard) robot from Google, (ChatGPT), and (Bing Chat) from Microsoft, and does not include any new features or technologies, and the design of the user interface is not yet complete, as Apple has not planned to launch it yet.
But employees who spoke to Bloomberg noted that the company is constantly evolving its AI models, so it’s expected to be supplemented with new features before it’s released.
At the beginning of bot development (AppleGPT); Its use was restricted to the company’s in-house developer team, and as security concerns arose over the use of generative AI models, Apple banned its employees from using it entirely.
But then I retracted the decision, and began to expand its use within the company, but its use until now requires obtaining an official permit from the administration, and the company also prevented its employees from using its outputs to develop new features in products or services related to customers.
The main uses of AppleGPT within Apple so far include: helping to develop product prototypes, summarizing texts, and answering questions based on data the bot has trained on.

Third; When will Apple release this robot to users? đŽ
There is no information yet about when Apple Robot (AppleGPT) will be introduced to users, but sources familiar with Apple’s plans confirm that the company plans to announce its first product in the generative artificial intelligence market in early 2024.
Reports indicate that Apple has directed several teams specializing in software development and artificial intelligence technologies, as well as teams currently developing cloud services to work on a number of new projects related to artificial intelligence, yet the company has not specified the nature of the service it will provide to users yet.
Apple’s efforts in the field of generative artificial intelligence are led by John Giannandrea, head of machine learning and artificial intelligence at Apple – the former head of artificial intelligence at Google and joined Apple in 2018 – and Craig Federighi, director of the software engineering sector at Apple now.
But as with many emerging Apple technologies, there have reportedly been disagreements over the development of AI products, and Gianandrea and Federighi are not working on a united front within Apple.
According to the report, Gianandrea’s vision relies on setting a general framework for various development efforts related to artificial intelligence, while closely monitoring what competitors come up with in an attempt to provide a product that overcomes everyone.
in addition to; Apple is currently seeking to enhance the capabilities of its teams specialized in developing artificial intelligence technologies by including new expertise, as it has been publishing job vacancies for months on its website, through which it is looking for engineers with experience in dealing with large language models and generative artificial intelligence systems, whose work will be directed towards developing its devices and operating systems, to change the way people communicate, create media and watch it through its devices.
see you soon! đ
