Hi Guys👋, at the end of this review, I’ll give you a summary of the pros and cons of this device, Make sure to read the review until the end. For sure you’ve heard of HUAWEI Nova devices before. 😍
Nova devices come with a modern design, mid-range to highend hardware and a suitable price. These devices are a fierce competitor in the mid-range category. The Nova series have been around for the past 6 years. And this year, Huawei introduced the Nova 9 device, and it comes with a great design, is lightweight and packs great cameras. Most of the device is made from unreflective glass.
The back has curved edges. The back comes with a mix of colors, pink and purple, depending on how the light hits it. At the top left of the back, there’s a circular module to house the rear cameras. The main camera occupies nearly half of the module. And the top, there’s a beautiful Nova and HUAWEI logos.
The front is mostly a screen. There’s a punch hole at the top middle to house the front facing camera. The thickness of the device is 7.77mm, which is great considering the hardware this device comes with. It weighs 175g, which is lightweight, and it feels great in the hand. The device comes with the Qualcomm SD778G with 8 cores with 6nm architecture build.
The GPU is the Adreno 642L. In Geekbench 5, the CPU scored 767 points for the single core and 2971 points for multicores, where the CPU performance is ranked among other competitors.
PUBG game started with the Smooth setting. It provided 60fps in most conditions. The graphics were satisfactory. You could up the graphics quality, but this might affect the frame count. It is up to you to choose the most suitable settings for you.
The battery inside is 4300mAh. It supports HUAWEI’s SuperCharge 66W technology. This technology will charge the device from 0% to 60% in 18 minutes. The screen size is 6.57″. It is an OLED panel with FHD+ resolution. It supports P3 with 100%. As a result of the P3 support, the screen produces 1.07 billion colors.
After experimenting with it, the screen offers saturated and beautiful colors. Since it is an OLED screen, it shows deep blacks with great contrast, it is suitable for all cases. The screen supports 120Hz refresh rate. Supported games and content will benefit from this high refresh rate. The screen’s touch sensitivity is 300Hz. This means that the screen will be very responsive.
Users, and mostly gamers, will enjoy this high sensitive screen. More and more games are working on supporting 120Hz refresh rate. The HUAWEI Nova 9 comes with 4 rear cameras and single front facing camera, and they are as follows: 😍
The main camera, which is is located at the top of the model is 50MP, and it is called Ultra Vision Sensor.
The camera has a 1/1.56″ sensor with HUAWEI’s RYYB supports. According to HUAWEI, this sensor will offer 40% more light compared to RGGB sensors. RGGB is an acronym for Red Green Green Blue. But HUAWEI’s sensor is Red Yellow Yellow Blue. This sensor enhances the light withdrawal, dynamic range and minimizes distortion.
The second camera is the Ultra Wide 8MP. The third is the 2MP Depth sensor and the forth is the 2MP Macro camera. The front facing camera is 32MP. The cameras use the XD Fusion Engine for photo processing. This technology from HUAWEI uses better algorithm to process photos from all the cameras.
The algorithms will help in taking amazing Night and Day photos. The main camera takes very good photos. The colors are wam and saturated. In most conditions, the colors will be natural. The details and light withdrawal are satisfactory and won’t disappoint you at all.
The Ultra Wide camera takes similar photos to the main camera. The quality of the photos is satisfactory, but with this camera, the colors are brighter and a bit colder. At the end, it is a personal preference.
Portrait photos are good, the details and isolation are satisfactory, especially with light directed at the object, it supports 10x zoom using software, but the quality will degrade. However, it does its job well. The Macro photos show good details. But in some cases, the photos won’t show much details, especially with moving objects. Other than that, the results will be satisfactory.
Night photos show satisfactory results. The device supports recording 4K@30fps videos. The performance of the camera and quality are very good good. The videos’ stabilization will be satisfactory. But if you lower the resolution to 1080p, it’ll be able to record with 60fps.
You can use this device to record videos from the front and rear camera at the same time. It is a great feature to use with friends around. You can also zoom in or out with the rear camera while recording the video.
You can also use both cameras to record videos in a different, which is great for vlogs. You can use this method for vlogs while attending events or visiting new places and so on. You can change the position of the selfie camera window, too. You can also choose the Wide and Ultra Wide cameras at the same time. You can then merge these videos and edit them however you prefer. front facing camera’s performance is very good. The colors are saturated and there’s a bit of skin smoothness.
In portrait photos, the isolation varies, but it does its job well. The Nova 9 front facing camera can record 4K@30fps videos. The results will be great if you’re facing a source of light.. With this device, you can use the HUAWEI Watch 3 as a shutter button to take photos. The device comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It supports dual nano SIM cards, and it doesn’t support an external SD card. But you can depend on cloud storages.
The device runs Android 11 with EMUI 12 on top of it. The UI is simple and easy to use. The device supports Hauwei’s App Gallery, which is one of the biggest app stores in the market. The store has lots of local apps. You can find most of the apps that you need in this store. The store also supports Petal search to help you download apps that are not available on the App Gallery.
The device does not support Google services❗🤫 There are other methods to install Google apps, but you’re responsible for it. The UI supports the Multi-Screen Collaboration technology. Do you remember the HUAWEI Super Device?🤪
This is part of it. This feature will allow you to connect your device to a Huawei laptop and browse it on the laptop. Your phone’s screen will be displayed on the laptop. This feature works by using the HUAWEI Share technology, which allows users to connect their Huawei devices together with a single tap.
The device supports bluetooth 5.2, dual band WiFi and NFC. You can use the device for payment methods like STC Pay wallet and so on. The HUAWEI Nova 9 comes with an in-display fingerprint sensor. After experimenting with it, the sensor offer high responsiveness.
HUAWEI has mastered the technologies of in-display fingerprint sensor. The device also supports unlocking using the front facing camera, but it is not reliable, since ti doesn’t have dedicated 3D sensors. The box includes the device, charging cable, fast charger and a clear cover.
The content of the box may be different depending on your region. The device is currently available for pre-orders, and it costs 500 USD and 440 Euros, With pre-orders, you’ll also get gifts that costs 230 USD..
Pros: 😍
The device comes with an elegant modern design, it is lightweight with high specs inside it. The cameras’ performance is satisfactory, and in general, it won’t disappoint you. The CPU offers great performance for gaming and daily usage. It supports fast charging, which is great, and it charges to 60% in 18 minutes.
Cons: 🤮
I wished that it supported an external SD card. But you can choose a bigger onboard storage. I am a bit disappointed, because we’re used to having an SD card support with the Nova devices.
The audio quality is good, but it does not having stereo speakers. It also doesn’t officially support water and dust resistant. But with the technologies that this device supports, it is considered a fierce competitor in the mid-range category.
