Reddit is one of the most important and popular online content sharing platforms, in addition to being one of the first social media platforms.

The Reddit platform is distinguished by its very large content, which includes many topics of interest to everyone, as well as a large group of participants. The platform was started in 2005 by a group of roommates at the University of Virginia in the United States. Reddit is now valued at more than $10 billion, thanks to its great content and influence.

The platform initially relied on fake visitors:

When you decide to create a new site, you start by preparing the site and its content, publishing it, and then waiting for the site to spread and attract visitors. But these steps differed slightly with the Reddit platform, where the platform aims to collect content provided by visitors, so you will not be able to publish content without visitors and a community that adds this content and places it within the site.

This prompted the site’s founders and administrators to rely on publishing the content themselves, but under false names.

Steve Huffman, one of the site’s co-founders, explained this in a lesson he was giving on the Udacity educational platform. He said that this gave them two important advantages, as it helped them decide what kind of content they wanted on the platform, and it also made the Reddit community appear live rather than automated.

Reddit didn’t allow comments in the beginning:

Comments are a big part of Reddit’s design these days, but the platform didn’t allow comments in its infancy. Some users have expressed their dissatisfaction with the platform’s use of the comment system and its imitating the rest of the platforms. The comments first appeared on Reddit at the end of 2005, which is more than 16 years ago.

Reddit has won 3 Guinness World Records:

A user of the platform developed his own site based on the idea of exchanging gifts via the Reddit platform. And RedditGifts was asking you to log in and register your data on it, and then these data were randomly matched until you got a surprise gift from one of the users who previously registered their data on the site.

The idea was so popular that the platform bought the separate site and joined it in 2011. The site provided the largest gift-sharing experience around the world in 2014, and more than 200,000 users participated in this experience.

The site won an award from the Guinness Book of Records three times in a row thanks to the volume of gift exchange that took place through it. Many celebrities also participated in the gift exchange process, including Bill Gates, who participated more than once in a row.

Celebrities and politicians follow the platform constantly:

Reddit has a large collection of topics called r/IAmA, which includes a set of questions specifically directed to celebrities who follow the platform.

Many celebrities follow Reddit, as it has hosted many interviews for famous personalities in various fields. Barack Obama’s interview on the platform is considered one of the most famous interviews that took place, as it got more than 230 thousand comments and questions.

Thus, it has become one of the biggest topics on the platform and on the Internet in general.

Reddit has a huge impact on the stock markets:

Reddit managed to make a huge impact on the stock market and money at the beginning of this year. Users supported GameStop, which was suffering from huge losses, and the value of the company’s shares increased significantly after users supported it, reaching profits exceeding approximately 120% of its original value.

While this effect didn’t last long and didn’t cause the Wall Street stock market to go down, it did make a huge impact on it and got many people interested in Reddit.
