These new headphones from Sony come with a design that is different than all headphones in the market. The first time you’ll see you’ll think there’s something wrong with it. These are the Sony LinkBuds headphones. Let’s find out Sony’s excellent technologies packed in this headphones.
Hi guys, welcome back, This is your host, OTTO magazine, Indeed this headphones is unique and different. The design of the headphones is basically two rings with open ends, meaning it doesn’t isolate you from your surroundings. It is made from eco-friendly materials. These LinkBuds headphones are a new headphones category from Sony. Towards the end of this review, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of the products.
We’ve tested the headphones to know their audio capabilities. Despite how strange the design is, this review will help find out whether it is suitable for you or not. The design of the headphones is unique and different. It has two rings, the main ring has a hole in the middle.

Sony calls this design Open Ring Design. The reason behind it is not to isolate you from your surroundings while wearing them. The headphones are eco-friendly since they are made from recycled plastic. The box is made from carton and doesn’t contain any plastics. The main ring has a rubber band to fixate the headphones in your ears.
The box contains a number of rubber rings to choose from. Ears are different sizes. It doesn’t mean that both of your ears have the same size. The case of the headphones is small and square in design. The case is smaller than all of the AirPods cases.
The size is excellent. It also has an LED status indicator. On the back, there’s a USB-C port for charging. There’s also a pairing button next to it. The headphones are very lightweight, it is also IPX4 certified. This means that is suitable to you in the gym.
The headphones supports a feature called Wide Area Tap. This feature allows to for shortcuts by tapping on your skin next to your ear. This allows for better control of the headphones. It allows you to control content. Each ear piece has a 12mm driver with pure and balanced audio. It also comes with the Integrated Processor V1 CPU.
Sony always adds great technologies to their products, such as this V1 CPU. This CPU helps in minimizing noises. It helps in providing a high quality audio. The headphones also supports a technology called Voice Pickup. This technology helps in picking up the audio during calls by processing it to provide a high quality audio, it works even in noisy places.
This technology uses algorithms to minimize noises. According to Sony, AI used 500 million audio samples to help it minimize noises during calls. The headphones support a feature called DSEE to help restore missing audio lost during compressing. This means it provides high audio quality. The headphones support a feature called Adaptive Volume Control.
This feature adjusts the audio in each ear piece depending on different circumstances. The headphones are compatible with all Apple products, such as iPhones, iPads and others, it also supports Android devices, and pairing it is easy. As long as your device supports bluetooth, it’ll work using the Fast Pair technology. It works pretty well with Android devices.

The headphones support Google Assistant and Alexa. You can enable it from the app, which I’ll discuss shortly. The headphones support an app called Sony Headphones Connect. The app allows for lots of options such as updating the software to enhance the performance. With this app, your investment is extended.
Sony will add new features if needed with software updates. The app shows you the battery percentage. You can also customize shortcuts for each ear piece, which is great. There’s also an equalizer with pre-installed customizable modes. The app also supports a feature called Speak To Chat. When enabled, this feature will stop the audio content when you start speaking with someone. 15 seconds after you stop speaking, the content will start to play again.
The apps help you choose the right rubber for a better seal and also choose the right codes for bluetooth. Wearing the headphones requires getting used to. You’ll also have to use the right size of the silicon ring, But with time, you’ll get used to it. The audio these headphones produce are pure and the pass is good. During calls, there’s a slight echo, but I consider the quality very good. What I really like about these headphones is that they don’t isolate you from your surroundings, it feels like you add another audio dimension to your surroundings.
You can also easily use it in workplaces. Based in our experiment, and according to Sony, the battery lasts for 5.5 hours. The case extends that battery to 12 hours. The total battery is 17.5 hours. The LinkBuds headphones come in either white or black colors, it costs 239 USD, it is considered a high investment, Your investment means that you are an audiophile or you like new Japanese technologies. But let’s not forget that the design is really unique.
What are the pros and cons?
The design is unique and the build quality is excellent. The case size is really small. It is great for those who want a headphones that doesn’t isolate them from their surroundings, it supports voice commands, and the app features will enrich the experience.
Cons:
You will need time to get used to wearing them. This might be different from a person to another. Since I am a technology fan, I will adopt it. You have to try it before you decide to buy it. I wish the ass was better. The case doesn’t support wireless charging, it is one of the best headphones from Sony. It packs lots of technology despite the strange design. The choice is yours. Let me know your opinion of these headphones.
Thanks and see you soon guys.
