Review 264: 16.12.2021 at 00:00 am

This laptop offers high performance, comes with a lightweight design and supports 90W fast charging. The screen is also smooth with 90Hz refresh rate support. Let me introduce you to HUAWEI’s MateBook 14s, which I consider to be one of the best powerful and lightweight laptops.

Peace be upon you all ✌😊 During this review, I’ll discuss the pros and cons of this laptop. Keep reading to find out whether this device is good for you. The laptop’s size is similar to an A4 paper, and the materials used are excellent. The laptop comes with the same HUAWEI design that we’re used to with their laptops.

The back has a HUAWEI logo and the front is mostly a screen.

The screen to body ratio is 90%. The screen comes with very thin bezels. The thickness of the laptop is 16.7mm, which is excellent. It weighs 1.43Kg. This makes it easier to mobilize the laptop as it is not heavy. The laptop comes with a Shark Fin cooling system.

The laptop comes with thin fans with an S shape fins. These fans support 25% better air suction. The copper pipes also helps in cooling the device.

In most condition, the laptop has a stable and managed heat. The laptop comes with a Backlit Chiclet keyboard. The key travel is 1.5mm and they are very responsive. After experimenting with it, the keyboard is comfortable and easy to use. It also comes with a rectangular Touch Pad with multi-gesture support. It is also responsive. The touch pad also supports HUAWEI Share, which I’ll discuss in this review.

The laptop comes with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button. After experimenting with it, the sensor is responsive. You only have to press the power button once to power on the device and unlock it. The screen size is 14.2″ and it is an LTPS FullView Display. It comes with 2.5K resolution with 3:2 aspect ratio.

The screen has 213ppi density with 400NITS brightness. The screen supports 90Hz refresh rate, meaning that supported content and navigating the deice will be smooth.

After experimenting with it, the screen offers beautiful colors with good saturation. It also comes with higher brightness than previous generations. The contrast and deep blacks are satisfactory for surfing the web and/or watching content. The screen supports TÃœV Rheinland technology, which protects eyes from harmful blue light.

The screen supports touch input with satisfactory responsiveness. It supports taking screenshots using three-finger swipe, and then you can select that part you want and crop it. The CPU is the Intel i7-11370H from the 11th Gen. It comes with 4 cores and 8 threads with 3.3GHz frequency. The frequency reaches up to 4.8GHz using the Turbo Boost technology.

The GPU is the integrated Intel IRIS Xe Graphics. The GPU offers high performance, and it is great for thin and light laptops. The RAM is 16GB LPDDR4x and the storage is 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD.

In Geekbench 5, the CPU scored 1552points for the single core and 50001 points for multicores. the CPU performance is ranked among other competitors. In 3DMark Time Spy test, the GPU scored 1880 points. the GPU performance is ranked among other competitors.

The laptop runs Windows 10 Home Edition. And in the upcoming months, it’ll receive Windows 11 update. I made a review on how to upgrade your device to Windows 11 on the channel. The OS comes with the PC Manager app from HUAWEI. This app allows for lots of options such as troubleshooting. It also helps your understand the shortcuts of the OS. It also allows you to enable HUAWEI Share technology, which will allow the laptop to connect to other HUAWEI devices using the SuperDevice ecosystem. This feature will allow you to broadcast your Huawei smartphone’s screen on the laptop.

You can control your smartphone and share files directly from the laptop. It also allows you to connect your MatePad table t to the laptop to make it an extended screen. You can then control the Windows OS directly from the MatePad. You can then share files between the laptop and tablet using the drag and drop feature. If you have the FreeBuds 4 headphones, you can easily connect it to the laptop once it is placed next to it.

The webcam is in the top bezel, and it supports unlocking the device using sensors and face recognition sensors. The webcam’s resolution is 720p. after experimenting with it, the webcam is satisfactory for online meetings. The laptop comes with 4 mics with AI Noise Cancelation.

The mics offer satisfactory experience. The mics will isolate noises around you when you’re in call or meeting. After experimenting with it, the mics offer excellent Noise Cancelation.

The laptop comes with HUAWEI Sound technology with 4 speakers. After experimenting with it, the audio is clear. The Bass is medium, but it could be better in closed places.

In general, the audio experience with the MateBook 14s is satisfactory. The laptop supports bluetooth 5.1 and WiFi 6. To benefit from WiFi 6, the device and router must support it. The laptop comes with 2x USB-C ports, USB 3.2, HDMI port and 3.5 headphones jack. The lasts from 10 to 13 hours depending on your usage.

The battery supports charging with 90W and it charges from 0% to 45% in 30 minutes. The charger comes with a USB-C port, and it is capable of charging other HUAWEI products like phones and tablets.

The box contains the laptop, a 90W charger and a charging cable. The content of the box may vary from a region to another. The device is currently available in the market. The MateBook 13s starts from 5999 SAR, while the 14s starts from 6499 SAR.

Pros: 😍😍😍

The device is elegant with high quality build material and is lightweight. It offers great performance since it comes with an 11th gen CPU from Intel. It is suitable for medium workflow, designing and university students.

The HUAWEI Share feature support is great with the HUAWEI ecosystem. The SuperDevice feature enriches your experience with the HUAWEI ecosystem.

Cons:🤧🤧😡

I wished the webcam performance was better. Despite the satisfactory audio experience, I wished it was better to compete with other devices. But it is green that HUAWEI has their own headphones.

Let me now compare this device with the 13″ MacBook with the M1 CPU. Both laptops offer high performance and capabilities. Each device, however, supports different technologies. The HUAWEI laptop offers a 2.5K screen with 90Hz refresh rate. The MacBook offers higher brightness and ppi density. The CPUs in both devices are the best in their category.

The MateBook 14s comes with an Intel CPU. While the MacBook comes with the M1 CPU. Both device comes with 512GB storage and 16GB RAM. Both devices have RAM technologies to help offer the best OS performance. Both devices offer great battery life, but the MateBook 14s comes with a 90W charger. The MacBook comes with a 61W charger.

🤡 The HAUWEI laptop supports HUAWEI Share technology, which works with HUAWEI products. The MacBook supports the AirDrop feature. Evaluate your needs based on what smartphone you have to get the best out of these devices. I wish you the best with your choices. 😎

See you later 😍✌
