Review 246: 26.11.2021 at 09:00 pm

This screen is great for watching content, gaming and offers all the specs you need in 2021, it is a screen for all users. Let me introduce you to the Sony X90J screen. Before I begin reviewing it, this screen is from the mid-range category, and it comes with technologies that are also found in other screens in the market. You should read thus article review, since the technologies I will discuss in this screen can also be found in other screens, which would make it easier for you to choose.

In this review, I’ll discuss this screen from Sony, Make sure to continue reading because I’ll discuss the pros and cons of this screen at the end of the review. This screen is considered one of the best screens from the mid-range category. The screen comes with sizes from 55 to 75″, it supports 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, it supports Dolby Vision and runs the new Google TV OS.

Before, screens used to run Android TV OS. But Google decided to name it Google TV OS instead. The screen uses a PA panel, which is known to be better than the IPS panels. This means that it offers deeper blacks compared to other LED screens. The only disadvantage about this screen is that the viewing angle is less than other panels.

The screen supports a technology called Full Array LED, which turns LED lights when needed depending on the content, if there’s a scene where there’s moon, the LEDs will be turned on for the moon only, while the others will be turned off. This means deeper blacks and no wasted light. The screen comes with the Cognitive Processor XR, which is also found with the A90J screen.

I previously reviewed the A90J screen, and the video is available on the channel. What’s great about this CPU is that it supports Cognitive Intelligence. This technology works by analyzing scenes and adjust them similar to how the human brain functions, it analyzes hundreds of thousands of elements in a second. This makes the pictures have high resolution with better colors.

The CPU supports a feature called XR Contrast Booster 5. This allows the screen to analyze the contrast and boost it for a better viewing experience, it also provides deeper blacks with dark scenes. The result will be a great viewing experience. The CPU supports a feature called XR Color, which gives the colors a more saturated and natural look. It also supports a feature called XR Triluminos Pro, which adjusts the colors to make them look better for the human eye. The CPU also supports a feature called XR 4K Upscaling, which upscales 2K content to 4K.

There’s another feature called XR 4K Super Resolution. This feature allows the CPU to enhance the 4K resolution. Sony has brought their XR technologies to this mid-range screen. There’s also a feature called XR Motion, which helps smoothen the content without affecting the contrast. The screen offers high performance with contrast and resolution considering it is an LED screen.

The colors are more natural and saturated compared to the X90H screen. The deep black levels are satisfactory, especially with content that support Dolby Vision and HDR10. But if you look for it, there is some kind of light leakage. But most users won’t notice it, especially that this screen is one of the best mid-range screens in the market. The screen comes with 2x HDMI 2.1 ports.

This ports will enable you to run 4K@120fps content. The ports also supports the ALLM feature. This technology will allow the screen to recognize the gaming devices it is connected to, it also closes processings so that the frames won’t be affected. Using the right cable, the screen recognized the PS5 and worked with 4K@120fps resolution.

The first game we tested is the CoD Black Ops Cold War. The game provided high smoothness and performance. Especially that this game supports 120Hz. And in general, the results were satisfactory. We also tried the Resident Evil 8 Village game. And it provided high performance too. The same thing applies to the Ghosts of Tushima Ditector’s Cut game.

We also tried the Xbox console, and let me now give you the details of our experiment with it. We tested the Gears 5 game, and it worked with high performance and responsiveness with 120Hz. Forza Horizon also provided beautiful colors, high responsiveness. The screen won’t disappoint you with gaming.

Sony focused their efforts to let this screen offer high performance with gaming. The screen supports running multimedia using the USB port, it supports running MP4 and MKV content without needing external apps. And you can run subtitle using the VLC or MX Player, which you can download from the store available on the screen. The UI is divided into sections. Each section has its own apps.

You can install lots of apps since the screen supports the Play Store. The screen supports customizing the colors how you prefer. However, it comes with a number of pre-installed modes along with the Energy Saver mode. The screen supports the AirPlay feature, which allows you to share the screen of your Apple devices onto the screen. It also supports Apple’s HomeKit feature to let you control your small appliances from the screen itself.

You can also broadcast your Android screen using the Casting feature. The screen supports a feature called Acoustic Multi Audio. This feature allows the audio to be precisely distributed. There’s another feature called XR Surround, which makes the audio feels like it’s coming form the middle of the screen. It also precisely distribute the audio to give the best audio experience. But it depends on where the screen is placed, too.

The screen supports Dolby Atmos and comes with 4x 20W speakers. After experimenting with them, the speakers offer pure and clear audio with satisfactory audio distribution. The bass is satisfactory, but it could’ve been better. By the way, to enjoy the best audio experience with screens, I advise you to get a sound bar. There’s an amazing wireless audio system from Sony. Let me know if you’d like me to review it.

The screen supports WiFi and bluetooth 4.2 It comes with 2x HDMI 2.0 and 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, it also comes with 2x USB ports, LAN port, and Audio port. The remote control comes with the traditional buttons but this time it comes with 4x apps buttons instead of 2. The apps are Youtube, Youtube Music, Netflix and Amazon Prime. I wished it supported customizable buttons.

🤡 Why is there buttons for apps that don’t use?

The 75″ version of this screen costs 2150 USD, and with the current sales, the prices goes down to 2000 USD. This review was written in November, but the prices might chance in the future. Always check for the best prices, though. 😎

Pros: 🤩

This mid-range screen comes with a good price and offers all the technologies that you need. The contrast and blacks are excellent considering that it is an LED screen, it supports low latency, 4K@120fps, and it is a great option for gamers who use the new gaming consoles.

Cons: 🤯🤯🤯🤯

The screen leaks more light than the previous version, But regular users won’t notice it. We thoroughly test these screens, though. I’m expert in screens 🙆‍♂️ It also only supports 2x HDMI 2.1 ports.

Why not the 4 of them? 🤨

It is a bit disappointing, because it is the same as last year. Technology improves, and you might need more 2.1 ports in the future. If two devices are connected to the ports, then you’ve ran out of them. According to Sony, a future software update will bring the VRR technology to this screen.

Evaluate your needs before you make a decision 🙏

TV screens are an important investment, Screens can be the main aspect of the living room, and are great for gaming and entertainment. You should get a screen size that suits the size of your living room.

Let me know what other screen should I review guys, 🤗 Also read the review of the older version of this screen, There are lots of options out there. 😍 See you soon. 👋
